Opening its doors in 2013, Cambridge Vinopolis was Nicolas Hall’s way of introducing his passion for fine wines from the vineyards of Europe to a small corner of Mill Road.

Previously an investment broker for two Bordeaux wine houses in London, Nicolas has a long-standing enthusiasm for wines, having spent two-and-a-half years living in the Languedoc region of the south of France, the largest wine region in the world.

Wanting to do something different following his experience in broking, Nicolas took over a run-down sex shop on the corner of Mill Road in Cambridge and transformed it into a vibrant and cosmopolitan boutique store, offering a vast selection of wines, whiskys, gins and beers. Combined with a range of high quality Rococo chocolates, cigars, olive oil and foods, Cambridge Vinopolis really is a must-visit for devotees and wine-novices alike.

Also on offer in store is a unique ‘try before you buy’ selection of wines from the barrel from the Languedoc – the first shop in England to have the facility to do such a thing. Customers can bring their own container or bottle or use one supplied; the perfect solution for a summer's evening or a party.

Nicolas’s expertise and knowledge for wine is unparalleled and evident for any of his customers to see. He waxes lyrical about his vast array of wines from all the corners of Europe and has a particular passion for Georgian wine, the birthplace of wine from way back in 6500BC!

Drop by to browse the selection, and sample the delights of this hidden gem of a shop. As Nicolas himself says, “It’s an old sex shop, we’re still selling sex – but now it’s wine and chocolate!”
